Saint Lucia

Everyone back home in Canada, of course, knows about Santa Claus. Although here in Italy, he doesn't exist. They have Saint Lucia and she is the one who brings the toys for the good children and coal for the bad ones. Tradition says that children need to write a letter and leave it on the windowsill, with a cup of warm milk for her, a glass of wine for Castaldo and some hay for her donkey. This tradition, widespread in some areas in the Northeast of Italy. It is so strong it surpasses Christmas. Also instead of having the holiday on the 25th of December, they have it on the 13th of December. The holiday may be more so for children but my family got me a little stocking of Kinder chocolate to celebrate my first time. I really enjoyed getting to learn about this tradition as well as having a little participation in it too.
The image above is not mine. It is merely an example.
